Cadet Commander Captain Daniel Fowl
Lt. Fowl is 16 years old. He is the Cadet Commander for the Anderson Composite Squadron and is a very well spoken, sharp young man and a perfect represenatation of a cadet in Civil Air Patrol.
Cadet Fowl has worked very hard to become an officer in CAP, has several ribbons and awards that represent his commitment to serving in our community and is the receipient of the Billy Mitchell award, the first milestone of achievement for CAP cadets.
Possible Topics:
Homeland Security and the role he has played (and cadets play) in emergency services in our community.
Search and Rescue training CAP Cadets receive.
Aerospace Education and its importance to young Americans.
Why programs like Civil Air Patrol are important to building the character, integrity and community awareness in young Americans.
Officer Mendie Cook-Hornbuckle
Officer Cook-Hornbuckle is our Deputy Commander of Cadets at the Anderson Composite Squadron. Officer Cook-Hornbuckle joined Civil Air Patrol as a Cadet at the age of 13. Her story of how Civil Air Patrol literally saved her life is a powerful representation of the importance of this program to young people.
Officer Cook-Hornbuckle grew up in an abusive home where she was severely abused emotionally, sexually and physically. Seriously neglected at home, Officer Cook-Hornbuckle literally raised herself and her little sister. When she joined the Civil Air Patrol as a teenager, she found a 'family' that instilled in her the importance of service, honor and integrity.
Her junior year in high school Officer Cook-Hornbuckle's best friend died. Her Civil Air Patrol squadron members were her support system and family she desperately needed to help her through this time. Through Civil Air Patrol and her new 'family' she found a strong confidence in herself and her abilities. Officer Cook-Hornbuckle will tell you that without Civil Air Patrol's influence in her growing up years, she does not believe she would be the productive adult she is today.
Possible Topics
How Civil Air Patrol and other programs like this are important to the forming of young people in America.
How important positive adults and role models like those in CAP are to young people, especially in light of the fact that for some kids, this is the only support they may have.
Captain Russel Geeskie
Captain Geeskie joined the Anderson Composite Squadron as a cadet in the 1950's and 60's. He served in the Air Force, but when his service was complete, returned to Anderson to join and support the Anderson Composite Squadron as a senior member. He is currently the Deputy Commander of Senior Members at Anderson Composite Squadron.
Captain Geeskie has an in-depth personal knowledge of the Civil Air Patrol and the importance it plays in the community and with young people.
