I need a little washer for my gas tank. Since it is going to be exposed to gasoline, that narrows the field a bit. I tried a couple things from lowes and a local autoparts store but they didnt have anything that would work. Those little rubber o rings just squished out from under the bolt.
The OEM washer is some sort of cardboard/graphite? composite. I know its not metal or rubber. Anyway, I’m very tempted to just cut up a pepsi box and see how well that would stand up to the gas. Would the gas eat away at the box? I was also thinking of taking a similarly sized metal washer and just wrapping it up in duct tape. Any ideas on what one could use?
maybe quark would work? dont know how it would stand up to gas.
gasoline eats rubber. try same stuff as the model T car – leather.
ATV gasket maker
Any auto parts store.

Cardboard and cork will not work. They will soak up the gas then start sweating it off. Go to the hardware store. They will have flat rubber washers.

You need a rubber washer type gasket not an o-ring.
