It's understandable. Most clubs have a plating on them (typically chrome) that protects the clubs in those instances. There are times, like with "raw" or "oil can" models of wedges or when the plating nicks off, that the oxidation process can affect your clubs, but that would take some time and negligence on your part. Reading your reaction, I highly doubt you'd abuse your clubs THAT much.
References :
Golf clubs do get rusty. To avoid it, wipe it clean after each play.

If your irons have metal shaft, make sure you wipe this down as well.
References :
Personal experience from getting rust on my 800 dollar metal shaft iron set.

nope. the clubs probably can rust, but it would take a long long time. i soak my clubs in water to clean off grass and it doesn't effect them at all.
References :
Definitely not. Just because they are called "irons" doesn't mean they are made out of iron. They surely won't rust, stop worrying.
References :
experience

no need to worry. the water doesn't stay long on your clubs, so it won't get rusty.
