Why are Polymer Matrix Composites (PMC) used in the aircraft industry?

When compared to metal alloys, composite materials have a much better weight to strength ratio. However, metal has better flexibility which is needed for wing flexing and various other parts of the aircraft. That’s why even the Boeing 787 is still only 50% composites
