I am customizing my sks with a black composite stock but the hand guard is attatched and cannot be removed, and i would like it to match the stock.
Randkl is right it will come off but as for it to easily come off I don’t know. If you have the tools and skill to use them fine but it doesn’t sound like you have either or you would know that the hand-guard is indeed removable. I had the same problem on my SKS (also Chinese) and I don’t have the tools needed for the procedure. I took mine to the local gun shop where the guy performed the necessary steps to replace it. He even said mine was the most difficult one he had done but $20 later I was outta there with the black hand-guard installed. Here’s a link to a aftermarket gas tube with a tactical rail that may or may not need fitting with a file. Buy some stripper clips too, good luck.

Brad, there’s a pin through the base of your gas tube/handguard that you need to remove. The handguard will come off easily and you can replace it then. The pin is through the rearward metal handguard cap where it slides into the gas/sight block under the rear sight.
Easiest way? Use a Dremel mototool cone grindstone and carefully grind off the head of the pin. Just til the head is gone. You can then tap it out with a punch and reuse it to secure the new handguard later.
No one really makes a synthetic handguard gas tube for sale as an individual part. if you were to find one, it would be one that someone ground off and punched loose and changed just like you above….and there’s no profit to be made in that as a business.
