What properties of polymer materials distinguish it from metals, ceramics and glass, and composites? To be exact, what causes objects to be considered as a polymer? Also, what is the difference between a composite and an alloy?
A polymer is a long chain of hydrocarbons (generally). Metals, Ceramics, and glass (which is a type of ceramic) are crystalline (for the most part) groups that can be broken down into a basic unit of just a couple atoms. A composite is a mixture of different things, an alloy is basically a metal solution (like salt dissolved in water, but with metal dissolved in metal).
