COMMANDER'S CORNER
April 2007
Last month we kicked off our recruiting drive with great rewards for our top recruiters. I am just glad I do not have to shave my head this time!
There is an old saying that there is strength in numbers. The more members we have, the better the opportunities can be. We will be able to have more than one flight, we could have a full staff of cadets and officers, and we can build a strong ground team, drill team, and color guard. The possibilities are limitless with more members.
As most of you already know, some of the members of the Anderson Composite Squadron have received awards during the Wing Conference. Cadet Fowl almost cleaned up the ceremony with a Commander’s Commendation, speech and essay contest winner, the wing special activities review board “Top Gun Award”, and the Indiana Wing David Dennis Award for the best cadet officer in the wing.
However, Cadet Fowl is not the only winner in the group. Lieutenant Sheree Beresford also earned a few awards also. She received a Commander’s Commendation for her exceptional work with this website and her hard work with last December’s 65th Anniversary. She is also the recipient of the “Wing Public Affairs Officer of the Year” award for her work on the squadron website and her exceptional skills in working with the media and other organizations. Lieutenant Beresford attended the banquet to support another cadet and was very surprised to see that we tricked her into coming to receive her awards.
The squadron was also nominated for the “Composite Squadron of the Year Award”. However, we did not receive this honor as it went to the Shelbyville Composite Squadron. I would like to congratulate Major Kris Copes and the rest of the squadron for receiving it. I hope we can give you some better competition next year!
I would like to congratulate both of our recipients and thank them for their dedicated service. They have earned them!
I would also like to thank Lieutenant Cook-Hornbuckle, Lieutenant Bonvillain, Officer Doty, Cadet Fowl, Cadet Jarrett, and Cadet Doty for their participation in the wing conference. We had a good representation of the squadron.
This is not the end of our journey though. There is much more we can do to make our squadron be the best in CAP. The awards available to units are still within our grasp for next year. All of our dedication and support starts now to help us make it to the top next year. I want to thank you all for your service and I hope we will get some of the awards we missed next year!
