Since strength has, a relationship to hardness, the strongest may well be diamond (in certain directions) but it is not typically used in tensile applications, or else carbon nano-tubes, which are not yet made in lengths that allow much practical use. For practical purposes, Kevlar® or similar synthetic fibers are probably the strongest.
